Where Can I Do My SIWES or IT in Osun State?

Dataslid Academy in Osogbo is an accredited SIWES and IT industrial training host for students who want practical experience in technology.

The academy accepts students from institutions across Osun State and neighbouring states. During your placement, you are not simply expected to sit in an office and wait for your logbook to be signed. You are given practical tasks based on your department, current skill level and the type of work being carried out.

Who Can Apply for SIWES at Dataslid?

Dataslid isn’t picky about where you’re from. If your school is an accredited Nigerian institution with an active SIWES or IT programme, you’re eligible.

Over the years, the academy has hosted students from universities and polytechnics across the Southwest and North-Central regions, including schools in Osun, Oyo, Kwara and Ekiti States.

Can I Do My ESI at Dataslid Academy?

Yes. Dataslid Academy also accommodates students completing ESI (Entrepreneurship and Skills Initiative) alongside SIWES and IT placements.

If your school has specific ESI requirements, send them to the academy so your placement can be structured accordingly.

Can I Do SIWES Remotely at Dataslid?

No. Dataslid Academy’s SIWES programme is in person and runs from its Osogbo office, Monday to Friday.

This is tied to how the programme is structured. Students learn through hands-on work, supervision and participation in practical projects. Being on site also lets you work alongside other people and get direct guidance while carrying out your tasks.

If you are coming to Osogbo from another location, Dataslid can help you find affordable accommodation nearby.

Will I Actually Learn Anything During My SIWES?

This is what most students worry about. A placement should give you practical exposure, not just a place to report every day and get your logbook signed.

At Dataslid Academy, students are assigned practical tasks based on their department and skill level. For example, you may work on web pages, data analysis, security checks, graphic design or other tasks connected to active projects. The expectation is that you take part in real work and leave with something you have personally built.

You also don’t need any prior tech knowledge to get started. Beginners are eased in with foundational tasks and built up gradually, while students with some background are placed on more advanced work from day one.

Why Your Choice of SIWES Placement Matters

SIWES is a required part of many academic programmes, but it does not have to feel like another box to tick. The organisation you choose shapes what you are exposed to.

A placement where you only report to an office and complete paperwork may satisfy an administrative requirement, but it will not give you the practical experience you should come away with. A hands-on placement shows you how the things you study in school are applied in a real working environment.

For students interested in technology, this matters even more, because technical skills are developed through practice. Building something, analysing something, solving a problem or contributing to a project teaches you things that are hard to learn from theory alone. That is the approach Dataslid Academy takes with its SIWES and IT placements in Osogbo.
